For the love of lipsticks and colours

Would you believe it if I told you I have a hundred lip products?

My addiction began when I was 15 years old. I’d been out on my first date . I was naïve and hadn’t been introduced to the world of makeup. The date went fine. We hung around in Planet M, a music store, and then walked around a mall. At the end of it, he asked me if I smoked. I replied no and asked why had he asked me that? He said that because smokers usually have dark lips, he’d assumed I too was a smoker.

Somewhere in my mind, that memory was engraved. In a week or so, after a lot of questions from my mother, I went to a mall and got my first ever lipstick. And thus began my journey of collecting lipsticks.

I am an incorrigible beauty hoarder and I love lipsticks and colours. Even when I design a simple flyer, I love combining colours in a distinctive way. Colours change everything - using red for glamour or as an accent in a design.

There are so many to choose from, and with different combinations. Matte lipsticks with moisturing ingredients.Or transfer-proof tints. Liquid lipsticks. There’s one for each woman and occasion.

Some lip products have a cut following, and I have discovered many of these through beauty bloggers from across the world. Like Glossier’s Generation G matte lipsticks, which cater to those who want just a light tint.

A lot of people prefer the nude look, also called "My lips but better”. Each person will have a different MLBB, and brands such as Colourpop offer so many shades that you’re bound to get one which best suits you.

One of the lip products I find really interesting is the Anastasia Beverly Hills lip palette. It has got colours such as yellow and blue. After seeing videos of a lot of bloggers using this palette, it’s amazing to see how the mixing of such colours brings you a very personalised tint.

Combining various lipstick colours to create a new hue is exactly like working with CMYK and RGB palettes. The way the different colours look is an instant way to fix the mood.

Like Elizabeth Taylor once said, "Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together.”
